The International Road Transport Organization has introduced a new service for tracking vehicles with cargo crossing the borders between Ukraine and neighboring EU countries. With the help of an interactive map, all the necessary information, which is updated quarterly, can be viewed online
• allowed types of trucks depending on the crossing point;
• appropriate throughput (number of vans cleared per day);
• contact details of the customs service (if available).
The web resource also displays the main access roads on both sides of the border - the so-called "Stripes of Solidarity for Ukraine". The European Commission introduced this initiative in order to facilitate the export of goods to the EU, in particular agricultural products. Since the outbreak of war, a problem with the delivery of goods to their destinations has arisen. Therefore, the decision on the need to establish alternative logistics routes using appropriate transport was made.
In accordance with the European initiative, E-routes (international) and most M-routes (national) must have at least two lanes. This contributes to the elimination of transport delays at the borders with the EU countries, and it will improve road and rail links between Ukraine and the EU in the future.
The war has changed not only the traditional ways of road cargo, but also the border control procedures between Ukraine and the European Union. Currently, the IRU's work includes three main areas: the delivery of humanitarian aid to displaced people by buses and trucks, support for drivers affected by the fighting, and the transport of vital goods in both directions. The organization continues to expand the range of opportunities to facilitate the logistics of export-import goods.
